The Illusionist

On Tuesday, October 3rd I went to see "The Illusionist".
I am not going to the outline the plot as it is a new movie and some of you may not have had a chance to see it yet.

"The Illusionist" was directed by Neil Burger, and is based off of the short story "Eisenheim the Illusionist" written by Steven Millhauser.

The movie begins with the Vienna police arresting Eisenheim, played by Edward Norton. It then quickly flashes over to Chief Inspector Uhl, Paul Giamatti, telling Crown Prince Leopold, Rufus Seawell, Eisenheim's life story.

Then the whole movie is a flashback, until it catches up with Eisenheim's arrest. The movie then takes an interesting twist. I won't go into details to preserve the sanctity of new movies. :)

Edward Norton as "Eisenheim the Illusionist"

Jessica Biel as "Sophie"

Rufus Seawell as "Crown Prince Leopold"

This movie was great. There was a murder (every good story needs one of those.) There was a love story. And let us not forget about the Illusions! There was a colorful collaboration of actors and actresses. Comedy was thrown in to make it lighter. But by no means was this movie "funny". It was serious. I think I bit my nails clean off during the movie, because I couldn't figure it out.

I enjoyed this movie immensly. Usually, I figure out what happened with a murder/mystery/thriller movie pretty early in the movie, but this time I didn't figure it out until just before the-who-dunnit and how was revealed.

I give it 4 stars flat. It may be generous, but I really loved this movie.

The Candy Spooky Theater's First PV - Exosist

Yay ^_^ My first post here. Please join the group and encourage others to join, okay?

Zull, Peggy, and Jack Spooky

The Candy Spooky Theater is one of the lesser known J-Rock-ish bands, but it's nowhere near unknown. They're known for their Tim Burtonesque titles and drawing, songs that sound like they're from a haunted amusement park, and, in my opinion, cutely morbid outfits.

Exosist is their first PV, and while there could have been a lot more going on, the fact that things seem to keep repeating themselves gives it a creepy, almost 'wth is up with this' style. The song isn't as active as 'Devilish Kidnapper' and 'Trick or Treat', but it's still the catchy CST style. I'll stop rambling now and get on with it...

The entire PV is dark and sometimes it's a little hard to see what's going on. It opens up showing the inside of a cluttered room, showing the names of who is in it, etc. Jack Spooky is 'Jeckel', Peggy is 'Hyena', and Zull is 'The Doll.' There is also a girl, but she is not introduced.

Freaks me out, too...

Jack is seen putting out a ciggarette in an already filled tray and picking up a knife. Peggy is eating something that looks like a sammich. Zull is just sitting, keeping out of the way. Jack starts cutting his own hand but quickly pulls away. There's a flash of quick images, making it even harder to understand, but then you see Jack stabbing Tsutomu (basically, the mascot doll).

After that, everyone seems to be back where they were, and the lolita girl is sitting in between Peggy and Zull. Many repeated shots of Jack just standing with his cigarette. Eventualy, Jack gets up, kicks the camera (or the TV..?), Peggy licks blood from his fingers, and the lyrics begin.

The screen goes black, and we return to the same scene, where Peggy is eating something else. The girl knocks it from his hand and starts talking to either Zull or Jack.

(Finally) They're outside, walking around. Zull is skipping, though XD. The girl is eating ice cream while sitting next to Jack. He says/does something and she walks off. She sees Peggy and throws the cone at his feet. Jack and Peggy follow her.

Walk away while you can...

After a few filler shots, including a confusing one in with a guy in a bright shirt, the girl is in a light white dress, Jack, Peggy, and Zull still following her. Jack pushes her over and then starts repeatedly stabbing her. And then starts eating her insides.

Cut to a dining table where it looks like her insides were that night's meal. There are many crosses there. There is a small change in the music here, almost like a proper Victorian string piece, as they eat. After many filler shots, we return to the dark room, where everyone, including the girl, is sitting in their spots. Yet again, Jack gets up and stabs Tsutomu, but looks from the girl and Zull caused him to stop. More confusing shots, and then Peggy and Jack get n their knees and pray. A man in a suit seems to be running to (or from?) their room. The rest of the PV is just repeated shots, untol the end when all but Zull are praying, and the girl takes this opportunity to take some of the food from the floor.

Quite obviously, three main words to describe this experience would be dark, confusing, and unique. This video makes you think about what happened, is it all a dream, is there even a point, etc. You can either think of this as horrible, average, or brilliant. I think it's somewhere along the brilliant line, but it's not something I'd like to watch everyday...kinda makes youtr head hurt a little if you watch it for too long...
But for their first PV, it expresses CST perfectly.

I give it...☆☆☆+1/2 stars!

That's all for now ^^~

HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR - Enrai ~ Tooku ni aru Akari [PV]

TITLE: Enrai ~ Tooku ni aru Akari
LANGUAGE: Japanese
RELEASE: (Single) 10-26-2006, (Video) Week of October 1-7

It seems like a long time since HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR last released a single, but it's only been about two and a half months. I'm guessing around Wednesday is when I went to the fansite INSOMNIA where I found the link to download the video. I was about to go to school, so I started the download so when I got home, I could watch it.

As in every other HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR music video, you start off with seeing Maaki's head singing. In this one, her hair is EXTREMELY frizzy. In fact, it's so frizzy, it takes up the whole camera space! I'm torn between liking her make-up and not liking it, though. It's nice, but at the same time, it's a bit different.

In certain parts of the video, there are scenes with different things blending together. In the beginning, it's Maaki and the mass of water. There's also two roses blending together, and later, two different shots of Maaki and a rose (one shot with the rose not burning, and the other with the rose burning).

Like in most other HandMC songs, Yuusuke gets his usual round of "screaming", as I like to call it. Around the three minutes and nine seconds point, though, is where his best screaming point is, in my opinion. The bass, MEG's guitar solor, and the drumming definately help him out there to make it sound EXCELLENT.

Look - close up of the non-singing, instrument-playing members! From left to right, MEG (guitar), Kazuto (guitar), mACKAz (bass), and SASSY (drums). For those few seconds that they're actually there, they're just standing there, doing nothing but looking at the camera.

The only real problem I had with this video was Maaki's hair. At the beginning, it's way frizzy, and then it's half-frizzy, half-kinda-curly, and then for parts it's just wet. Can we just go back to the Maaki with straight hair, or the Ichirin no Hana styled hair? Those were pretty. :-)

And I especially love these two shots:

Here is the video:

I give this video a 4.5 / 5! Almost perfect, and pretty damn good. If you have any comments or questions, don't hesitate to post them!
